15 March 08 - Ta' Kola Windmill, GOZO, MALTA

Slow the image rotation by "left clicking" in the picture and then use "click - hold - drag" to get total control. Use the small tools located bottom left corner to zoom in or revert to auto rotate.

360° panoramic image showing the Ta' Kola Windmill, Gozo, Malta. It was a VERY hot and sunny day. However, I used my "home-made" pano head and using the backup Pantax camera to take 12 shots around a 360 degree panoramic view.

The tripod was setup in the shade of a small palm tree in the quiet village square garden directly opposite the windmill. This minimised the "flare" from direct sunlight that often spoils my full 360 camera lens.

The multiple pictures used in this panoramic shot produced a much better effort for controlling direct sunlight in to the lens. However, ghosting will occur if there's any movement carried out in the scene during the actual picture taking, so once again this technique doesn't produce a "perfect" panorama.

I explored the inside of the windmill and climbed the steep winding stairs right to the top. This is a genuinely interesting museum and well worth visiting in you ever have a chance while in Malta.

The old chap manning the door and ticket checking is really helpful and has a very dry sense of humour. He suggested that Victoria (capital of Gozo) was only a short walk and even drew me a map... 8 kilometres later I hobbled into the city main square, very thirsty and extremely sunburnt!

Ta' Kola Windmill, Xaghra, Gozo, Malta

Dry Description Snipped From Wikipedia:

The Ta' Kola windmill is a step back in time to the trade of the miller and a fine example of the rural economy and domestic life of Gozo in centuries past.

Built in 1725 and named after the miller who lived and worked here (in Maltese 'mithna' means windmill and ta' Kola means ‘of Nicholas' – Nicholas' Windmill). The mill consists of a rectangular building that incorporates a circular tower some 15 metres high. Of the twelve windmills built by the Knights, only the Ta' Kola windmill in Gozo still remains in good working condition. The windmill is now available to show visitors how these mills worked.

The Museum also houses a wide range of tools, some of which were originally manufactured by the owners of the mill. On the first floor, the living quarters of the miller have been recreated using traditional furniture and items related to Gozitan crafts, such as weaving and lace making.
